Building Homes or Extensions/indoor/outdoor fireplace

Question
Hi Bruce,
We are getting ready to start a new residential construction.  I want a fireplace in the walkout basement and also a fireplace on the outside of the walkout basement on the patio, but do not want a see thru. We also have one on the main floor same wall.  Will we have to put in 3 separate fire boxes with separate flues?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Shelley, yes you will need two separate fireboxes in the basement one inside and one outside and then the one up above.  You might be able to use a single pass thru firebox in the basement but then you would have to install some kind of barrier, a steel plate or brick divider up to the flue.  I hope this information helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce e johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
