Building Homes or Extensions/masonry, stucco

Question
Hi, I am involved in a prelim design of a 40x60 cement block building in Texas. The question is, can we use stucco on the walls? Are there any special precautions? We would be using experienced masons in the actual construction.

Answer
Terry, this would be as common as apple pie.  In fact, my dad lives in a retirement area in Florida where the buildings are all block and the fronts are decorated with masonry stucco to look like stones, bricks, shutters, siding, etc.  The other walls are stucco textured.  The effect is quite impressive.  Your stucco contractor might be different than your mason depending on local customs.
