Question
I need to put a 4'x 4'x 8' (128 cubic feet)water tank on a wood framed floor. I'm using 2" x 12" rough cut spruce for floor joists. These are spanning 12' with 3/4 tongue and groove plywood sheathing. The floor framing sits on 6" x 12" beams at either end with a double rim joist on both ends. I was thinking making the spacing at 1' O.C. under the water tank area. Would that be sufficient?

Answer
Hi Robert, spruce isn't my favorite choice for structural joists (Douglas fir or southern yellow pine top the list followed by hem-fir) but you are only talking 300psf..long story short definitely go with the 12" spacing..I hope this information helps, please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely bruce johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
