Building Homes or Extensions/Gas Flue

Question
Hi there! Is there a required distance that you have to adhere too with regards to a gas fire & its outlet flue [height up to the chimney stack]? As additional information our gas fire flue exits directly out to the outside wall & travels upwards in a chimney stack on the outside wall [not internally]

Regards

Tony

Answer
Hi Tony,

Your chimney stack varies with Planning and building consent from different local Authorities.
They set various heights in relation the the position of the chimney whether internal to the property or to an outer wall.
There are set heights from the ridges of the roof to allow fumes to escape.

Gas fire flues and wood burning stoves also vary with requirements and do require combustion air vents located wihin the property to allow air change and flow.Thes can be set in the floor or walls.
Some modern appliances dont require them so best check with appliance manufacturer.
You say your flue is external and into an existing chimney stack of I would believe if the diameter is correct for the distance of height travel it would be fine.
You didn't mention if this is a new property or old. If the chimney was previously used for solid fuel and your flue liner is intact then it should be ok.
