Building Homes or Extensions/Hardwood Floors

Question
What comes first cabinets or hardwood flooring in a new kitchen ?

Answer
To prevent height problems with the dishwasher, etc I like to set the cabinets on some type of rough sheathing that is the same or slightly higher than the finish flooring.  There is little or no reason to use finish flooring under the cabinets as it will never be seen and does not warrant the expense.  If there is any chance that you would change your mind about cabinets later, it would be easier to just run the finish flooring throughout.  Staining and sealing the floor is much easier without the cabinets.  You really have to know where the cabinets will be sitting if you go with the plywood blocking.  Make an early decision about the area under the refrigerator, etc.

Life is miserable if flooring has been added and traps the dishwasher making it almost impossible to replace.
