Question
i have a room above my garage that i am finishing.  i want to vault my ceiling.  the rafters are 2x6.  do i have enough room for the proper insulation?

Answer
Hi Shane, it really depends on where you live and the type of insulation you use.  A 2x6 cavity filled with fiberglass batts will only provide you with an r rating of 19.  Most zones in the US recommend at least R-39 or higher for roof insulation.  However there are some insulation companies providing spray foam closed cell insulation which would give you a high enough r value within your rafter space.  I hope this info helps feel free to write again regarding this or other matters sincerely Bruce Johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
