Building Homes or Extensions/Maple Steps

Question
If I install a maple hardwood floor and have steps up to it should the steps be maple also or oak wood?

Answer
If it were mine, I would go with the maple.  Maple and oak will never stain or look similar.  If you are planning to paint or ebonize one of them, it becomes less of an issue.  If you are talking about the longevity, the two woods will be quite similar.  YOu have the same decision and answers on handrail, newells, and balusters if they will be wood.
