Building Homes or Extensions/Raising a mobile home

Question
I'm flirting with ways to add an apartment for my aging mother.  We have a triple wide mobile home.  Would it be possible to jack it all up and build a first story (ground level) under the MH?

Answer
Karil, this would be possible, but not the approach I would use.  If there is any way to contemplate moving the mobile home to a separate location on site, you could design and build the ground floor apartment and then have the mobile home installed over it.  If this is just not something to contemplate, be aware that it will be very difficult to support the existing MH while excavating  under it and any and all utilities will need to be temporaried or cut loose and reinstalled.  There are no easy solutions for these type issues.  Contact the trailer dealership to discuss or find a potential contractor who might do this type work.

I don't know that I've helped, but perhaps have gotten you on a good beginning path.
