Building Homes or Extensions/Cantelever insulation

Question
Hi: We have a 5-6 foot extension at back of house which is about 3-4 feet above ground, no foundation. Had issue when hardwood floors buckled in M/B. had to repair but beneath floor was very damp. We had spray foam installed(under extension)  2 years ago for better floor insulation and have been told that the joists should be completely sprayed as moisture will go up through wood. Is this true and should I have joists completely sprayed (now only about half way covered between joist). Live in Ontario Canada. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Michael, it wouldn't hurt. But you should at least cover this extension with either hardi panel cement board or pressure treated plywood over house wrap to enclose the bottom of your joists to keep the moisture out completely.I hope this info helps please feel free to write again regarding this or other matters, sincerely Bruce Johnson..bejohnsonconsulting.com
