Building Homes or Extensions/Roofing Plywood

Question
I'm re-roofing my home with composite shingles.  A contractor friend tells me that I should use 1/2" tongue and groove plywood, but the local lumber store says it's not made.  The lumber store tells me that H clips are just as good.  I guess I can go up to 5/8" but with 24" centers on the roof joists, I'm concerned about the weight. T&G is usually used for sub floors so I don't see anything on the internet regarding it's use in roofing.  I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Answer
Hi Paul, for 24" spacing I recommend 5/8" CDX plywood with H-clips.  Every type of plywood is stamped with the recommended spacing, nailing, and gapping between sheets, make sure your contractor follows these guidelines.  Sincerely, Bruce Johnson ..bejohnsonconsulting.com
