Building Homes or Extensions/Addition to house with trussed roof

Question
I am in Northeast Ohio and have a question regarding adding on to my home.  The house was built in 1996, and has trusses.  My father-in-law insists that it is next to impossible, or cost-prohibitive, to add on to a house with truss construction.  The house is a two-story, the planned addition would be 1 story. Let me know if you need more information.  Thanks!

Answer
Greg,

Lots of additions are built onto houses with trusses.  I'm not sure what your particular issues might be.  Are you talking about roof trusses or floor trusses?  Will the trusses be cut, disturbed, laid upon, joined to, or otherwise be involved in the addition?

I'd love to hear more about this.  Please send some particulars, and if possible send along a couple of photos of the existing structure (where the addition will be going) to my e-mail at info@majordesigngroup.com

Look forward to hearing from you.
