Question
I want to build bricks steps from the lounge level to the patio level. Two risers only. The old steps were removed when contructing the patio. Should I leave a gap between the steps and the house bricks ? If so houw much ? It would appear the old steps were not bonded to the house brickwork. The damproof course is high, i.e. just below the lounge threshold.

Answer
Hi Peter,

Build your brickwork tight to the house brickwork and tie in using L shape cramp ties drill fixed to the house brick
2per side  and build your steps with the lower one supporting the one above and point all junctions between your house and new steps.
This will prevent moisture collecting within the void.
