Building Homes or Extensions/Building A Shed

Question
Hi Stephen. I currently have an 8'x6' cedar shed that is use to house my tools. I have it on a 12'x10' deck. I want to expand it to the full deck but using the current shed. It was my uncle's who passed away 3 years ago and don't want to get rid of it. How could one expand the current shed? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers
Mike

Answer
Mike,

This is actually a technical question, as in it's all about the right technique for expanding the shed.  And unfortunately I can't suggest a correct technique without seeing the shed.

You are welcome to e-mail a photo(s) to info@majordesigngroup.com.

Otherwise, here's my generic advice:  You could place the shed at a corner, remove two walls and re-build longer walls at the deck's perimeter.  Then you could either (a) extend the roof (if the pitch is not steep) to meet the new walls, (b) construct flat roofs to enclosed the new space, or (c) dismantle the existing roof and re-build one of the correct size.

In any case, the structure you end up with will NOT be your late uncle's shed anymore, in which case you are really better off letting bygones be bygones and getting/building a new 12' x 10' shed of your own.

Good luck,

Steve Major.
