Building Homes or Extensions/Concrete slab for spa

Question
Dear Expert,  We have received a quote for an 8ft x 9ft concrete slab built in our backyard.  It will carry a hot tub/spa.  The contractor said that it is not necesary to remove the grass underneath the slab and the slab will be built directly on top of the existing grass. All the instructions I read on the internet say to remove the grass first.  Is it necessary to remove the grass or not?

Answer
Hi Terri,
This has been an argument kicked around forever. My feeling are, if this slab is not attached to any other structure, and is re-inforced with good mesh or re-bar,
it will be fine on the grass.
( as an aside, we put 2" of foam under our hot tub on top of the slab, this will help keep your electrical costs down.)
Best of luck, Dave
