Building Homes or Extensions/Engenered Floor Joists

Question
My husband and I built a new home just about a year ago and we put what we thought was engenered floor joist in.  My question is how do we know that they are engenered, what do they look like, should the floors shake when you walk across them and if the door is shut too hard?

Answer
Well, This sounds not so good. If your floor "shake" when doors are slammed, you may not have the correct joists.
If you have a local code enforcement officer, I suggest you contact him and have him inspect your home. If he finds that they are under designed, you need to contact your contractor. If there was no contractor and you built it yourselves, then whoever sold you the engineered joists could be at fault. This is assuming the lumber dealer had all the correct specs to start with.....
Good luck,

Dave
