Building Homes or Extensions/Hanging a front door

Question
Hi Dave,  I hung a Simpson front entry door with a prehung frame and a pair of sidelights.  I'm trying to place the weather stripping on the bottom of the door but there is not enough clearance between the bottom of the door and the top of the threshold. I looks like I need to cut the bottom of the door but before doing that I want to know if there is a standard distance between the bottom of the door and the threshold ?
I want to make sure so I don't cut too much off.  Thanks,  Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,
Assuming there are no instructions with the door, and that the door is wood:  first ; is the threshold adjustable?
If it is, adjust it to about mid way or lower. Then cut only enough off the door to install your sweep so that it drags. Adjust threshold to the correct height afterward.

If there is no adjustment, cut off only enough of the door to allow the door sweep to drag. This may require cutting more than once for a good fit.
Good luck and mail me if you need more......Dave
