Building Homes or Extensions/Front Porch

Question
Hello! I like to covered my front porch, but the contractor said that he  need to restructurer my entire roofing. He explaining that because I have hip roof and he can not add a roof to the porch leaving the hose roofing the way it is. The hose is 40' W X 24 D and the front porch is the same as the hole lenght of it.  It is a another simple and pratical to do the job? Thanks!

There may be alternative methods to accomplish this.  If possible, are you able to send a couple of photos of the porch and the front of the house, preferably with a person in the photo, for scale?
