Question
After demolishing an old chimney I am now re-building the chimney for an open fireplace. At what height do I place the flue gather?

Answer
I am not the best answer here.  There is a great deal of science in designing efficient fire  chambers that draft well and don't dump smoke into the living space.  The draft definitely needs to be higher than fireplace's headered opening.
