Building Homes or Extensions/Roof Trusses

Question
I'm adding on a carport to an existing garage. How do I measure what truss to order to match.  Someone told me my roof is a 5/12 pitch 26' long with a 1 ft over hand.  I'd like to make sure before ordering. Thanks.

Answer
Joe,

Trusses are too expensive, and they take too long to order, to rely on anyone but yourself to measure for new ones.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I put up a sketch for you on my website at this address:

Please visit this - it'll really help.

I would advise that you take apart a small area of your roof to expose the tail and heel (see the diagram) so you can verify these dimensions.

Good luck. Let me know how you make out!
