Building Homes or Extensions/Tankless Water Heaters

Question
I am interested in installing a whole-house electric tankless water heater (such as a Stiebel Eltron Tempra)in a seasonal camp.  It is located in Maine.  I am concerned about the seasonal pipe drainage & shutdown.  Should I do this, or is there risk of cold temperature damage?  I am currently remodeling and really would like to get rid of the old energy inefficient tank heater.

Answer
I love tankless water heaters, though of course freeze protection varies by the unit.  Some are even intended for outdoor installation, down to fairly cold temperatures.  This one: http://www.foreverhotwater.com/model-r85e.php
will self-protect to -30 F if gas and power are on, and comes with optional drain-down valves for winterizing.  Tankless water heaters pay for themselves quickly, and are increasingly common.  A dealer in your area should be able to help with frostproofing issues for particular units.  Good luck.
