Question
good day,
i have a 30 x 30 detached garage that is about 8-10 feet from my house. i want to attach it to the house with a breezeway. the thing i am wondering about is movement between the garage and the house. i know i can put expansion joints in the little concrete floor for the breezeway, but what can i do when i attach the structure to the house? do not want walls being pulled with heaving ground if it happens. is there a form of expansion joint i can use to attach to the house?

Answer
Hi Darryl,

If both structures are slab on grade or their is no frost in your area, you should good. If not the trick is not to attach the two which poses a problem with the roof. If you are in a cold area and the garage is on a slab, I would not attach the two.
