Question
QUESTION: I am after guidance with the blocking placement for pipework in a bathroom and laundry extension, including the shower, vanity, toilet and tubs. The stud framework is in place with basic noggins at the moment.

ANSWER: Hi Roni,
While I am not a plumber, I think I can answer your query
but I need more info.
are you talking about distances from walls for fixture piping locations?
Block backing for hanging fixtures? Sorry I can't help now, but with more to go on I think I can...

QUESTION: Hi,
Thanks for the response. I could do with a bit of help.
The pipes are to be run for the taps and fixtures. I think I need to horizontal block between the studs for the pipes to be fastened to (using brackets). Is that right? Do the pipes run in front of the blocking and how much space do they require. Also how many blocks are required up the wall for the pipes to be fastened too? I'm guessing the blocking for the fixtures (like the toilet) will be specific to the model so I can check them as I go.
Thanks again.

Answer
Hi again,
Yes, a block between the studs is fine. We usually keep the block flush with the stud face and put the pipe behind.
The toilet supply usually comes thru the wall at 6" high.
Counter height for a lavatory is 30" to 34", depending
on personal preference.
You may want to put additional blocking for attaching a
vanity at this height.
Any place piping runs vertically more than 3', additional blocks should be used.
ALSO: your kitchen cabinet blocking needs to be centered at 35", 54" and 84".
Anything else I can help you with...just ask.
