Question
Season Greetings!
Mr.Barnhill,

What is the correct way to join a new addition footer to an existing house?   Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Respectfully,
Orpha

Answer
Orpha,

In most cases footings should be continuous.  When building an addition, this is ordinarily accomplished by drilling into the old footings and grouting in rebar dowels.  Your structural engineer, if you have one, may have other options for you to consider; they would be the best person to consult.

Good luck, Ted

(Sorry for the delayed response, I was out for the holidays.)
