Building Homes or Extensions/laying shingles in a valley set

Question
I have added a 10' x 16' addition to my home. walls are done and rafters are here I would like to put them up ASAP.  Just wondering on laying shingles in the valley set being I will be adding to the existing roof. ( the existing shingles are only 5 yrs old)  Should I cut the existing shingles before setting the rafters and sheeting or cut the shingles at that point then lay my Ice barrier and flashing in the valley directly over the existing shingles then lay new shingles in the valley.  or how would you suggest laying these shingles?

Answer
Hi Dan,
Ideally, you should strip enough shingles to lay your ice & water shield then treat the valley as you would on new construction,i.e. either weave the shingles or lay one side thru the valley then cut to the valley with the other side.
OK?  if you need more info, please ask.
