Building Homes or Extensions/raising my garage

Question
I want to raise the height of the rear of my garage by 4 courses to make it level with the front so that I can replace the existing corrugated sheet roof with a flat one.The garage is at the bottom of my garden and forms a party wall with next door.My neighbour is objecting to this on the grounds of aesthetics and increased height.Does my neighbour have the legal ability to prevent me from doing so? The bricks used are to be in keeping with the ones already there and the garage is no where near our houses. The overall height of the garage will remain the same and does not cast a shadow on my neighbours house.

Answer
Hi Roger,

I would presume in this instance the height at the front  of your garage complies with current legislation for your district.Region's vary with height restriction so check first with your local building control, quick phone call will sort this.Heights are determined from the distance of the road kerb at the front of the property travelling to the rear, and rise in increments depending on the structure.
I would say as long as the work is not of a structural nature and merely a remedial improvement, maintenance exercise then I would proceed with your work, carried out by a qualified tradesman. Please take record photos of present condition and throughout as nuisance neighbours can be very difficuilt.
