Building Homes or Extensions/room in attic

Question
Hi Dave
Ive just recently completed a free standing room in the attic. About 100 sq ft with a 8K portable ac unit inside & ceiling fan. The room still gets in the 100 degree temp range with ac running all day. I used r13 between the studs, the outside is convered with r4 foam board, and the inside has sheetrock with paneling over that. What can I can do to stop heat soak? Im pissed the room still gets that hot. Located in AL
thanks for your help Tim

Answer
Wow, i don't blame you for being pissed! Very frustrating.
I can only think of one thing; there may not be enough
attic venilation both overhead and if you have "kneewalls"
probably there too.
You can use gable venting, soffit venting and a "turbine" type roof vent. I would suggest any 2 of these.
Also, there are attic fans to help rid the space above your room, but you need to provide an outlet for the hot air (re: venting)

Good luck

Dave
