Question
I already have asked this question just want a second opinion.

i am building a reckroom and want to bolt a 2x4 wall to the steel i-beam .is it  allowed bycode to drill a 1/4 hole in the flange of the steel i-beam so than i can use a nut and bolt?
or is their something else that I can do?

Just want to pass inspection from the building inspector>

Answer
You have no problem drilling holes for nut and bolt.  There are a few other choices:

PAT (powder actuated fastener) that shoots a nail through your top plate and into the I beam. This tool would also do an excellent job of pinning the bottom plate to the floor.

Use a self drilling screw through your top plate into/through the flange.  This will require good grade self drillers - the same ones you would use to fasten down deck boards on a trailer.  If you can't push hard enough it may be easier to drill a lead hole.
