Question
our builder has told us that there is no problem building in winter nor is there extra costs. They do not have the blueprints done yet so in mid september, we are in calgary canada, should we be concerned about a starting our project this close to winter?
thanks

Answer
Just an opinion.  When do freezing temperatures hit Calgary?  If the builder is going to absorb the costs of working the cold, it should not affect you.  The contractors and their men are used to working in the conditions.  The only material that is extremely cold sensitive is concrete, but as long as provisions are made to protect the concrete from freezing during its first week, you should be all right.  You might stop outdoor flat work (sidewalks, patios, driveways) until you have proper conditions, even if that is next spring.
