I'm looking at making a home purchase in Florida. Several hurricane's have ripped through here in the last few years. Any thoughts on safety of wood frame vs cbs? What about other issues? My realtor says no way to wood frame, but I know many who own and are happy.

I think you are correct!  I strongly recommend the usa of ICF's. ( Insulated concrete forms) They are filled with 6" of concrete (re-inforced) and have over 2 1/2" of foam inside and out. They are easy to use, require no gluing, and are extremely easy to cool/heat.
The brand we have been using is NUDURA, and there are distributors in Florida.
