Question
Ken it is me again, this time I am asking about Canna lilies.
Trenton Ontario, Canada.  Zone 5,  We dug them out last fall and dried them and cleaned most of the soil off, then stored them on peat moss in a large paper bag, in our cold room.  I have brought them out now do I lay them on damp Peat or waint until the sprout and start them in pots.  Some of the corms are quite large.  Should I split them or just leave them?

Answer
If you wish to divide the tubers, you can do so after you see the eyes swell or sprouts starting. Then cut the tuber with a knife making sure each piece has atleast 1-2 eyes. Leave the tuber on the bed of moist peatmoss sphagnum until the cut heals (callus). Then plant.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
