Question
I don't know any other name to call these  except Fire Pokers so hope you know what I mean. Bloom in early summer here in No, Calif. on long spikes with red tips and yellow bottoms. My question is, now that they are done blooming can I cut the tops back? Is there another name for them?
Thanks

Answer
Joan,
The real name is Kniphofia tritoma (Red Hot Poker). My sources tell me they are grayish green evergreen foliage. So cut back all blooms and stems, but if the foliage looks good still, you can leave that if you like it.Ours are just beginning to bloom here in Kentucky.
Have fun gardening this summer!
