Question
I recently revcieved a pink hyacinth in a pot. It had a powerful scent but the next day, the scent has gone and the flowers look limp. i have watered it a few times (maybe too many?) and have tried to keep it in the sunlight. i am in Toronto, Canada and the weather is around 21 deg. C. Please help me rejuvinate my plant!

Answer
Water the plant when soil is dry, but do remember to empty the saucer/cup so water is not standing in the pot. Sometimes potted hyacinths comes in pots which are placed in an outer plastic pot with no drainage holes. After watering, you need to remove the inner pot from the outer pot and empty the water. Standing water is the hyacinths worst enemy. It needs regular water, but it should never be allowed to stand in water.

If you empty the saucer/outer pot after watering (a few minutes later), you really can not water too much.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
