Question
Hi- thanks for volunteering! I have an Amaryllis Minerva kit. It has "gowing medium", an enormouse bulb and a pot. The bloom time is 6 to 8 weeks and I want it to bloom at Christmas. Is this bulb OK to not plant for 2 or 3 weeks? Also, as it's growing, does it need to sit anywhere in particular and how often would I water it?
Thanks again,
Lisa

Answer
Lisa,
I just bought one myself yesterday. It comes with a coir disc, which expands in water making a moist soil.Mine says 10 to 12 weeks for full bloom,so if you want it by Christmas you should go ahead and plant it now.Keep it in a warm room, but avoid direct sunlight(meaning outdoor direct sunlight).A sunny or bright window is fine. If the stalk starts leaning toward the light, keep turning it to get a better formed plant. That goes for the blooms as well when they start opening. You may have to stake the stalks with some thin wooden stakes as it gets taller, and it will.
Mine says "flowers will last longer if you move it to a cooler place at night".Just move it away from the warm window or whatever warm room you intend to use.But this isn't necessary until the blooms start to open.
Hope it's GORGEOUS! I can't wait to plant mine ,I guess I need to get to work.HA!
Good luck with yours and have a great fall/winter season!
