Question
Iwould like to divide the cana lillies that i have brought in for the winter. There are many shoots but they are all joined at the root. Can i cut each individual shoot at some part of the root.I thought that i could pull each apart but no luck, i don't wan't to damage the plant.thank you

Answer
Yes you can cut them with a knife. To divide a canna rhizome, brush off the dried soil so that you can see eyes, or buds. Cut off any old foliage. Using a sharp knife, cut the rhizome so that there are two to three healthy eyes on each division. Plant eyes up in the ground. Use a knife which has been sterilized by dipping in a bucket of bleach water (blended: 9 cups water + 1 cup Chlorax Bleach).

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
