Question
dear kenneth, I live in sw france, which I think is zone 8.  i have some crocuses in bloom at the moment which I am going to have to move.  could you let me know how soon I can do this.  Many thanks, judy

Answer
The ideal time to move crocus is right after flowering is finished. Simply dig the crocus corms and move them to their new planting site. Plant them at same dept (5 cms) as they were originally planted, and then water well to settle the soil around the roots.

If you are careful, you can also move them now in bloom, just make sure you dig clumps of soil (containing the corms and the roots) and move the entire clumps of soil. e.g. dig out a large scoop with a shovel and move them in large clumps. The crocus are pretty shallowly rooted (a few inches). After replaing, water well.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
