Question
my wife recieved an easter lily she plantred it,it rebloomed. she wants to know if bulbs need to be dug up we are in buffalo ny thanks

Answer
No, lily bulbs do best left in the ground in NY. Next spring, apply an all purpose flowering plant fertilizer twice in spring (when the sprout appear above ground in early spring and just before flowering in late spring).

Easter lilies may bloom later outdoors compared to those bought potted (they are specially preparred to flower early the first year).

In winter, after the soil has frozen add a deep layer of mulch (spredded leaves, shredded hardwood, etc) atleast 3-5" deep. In early spring you can remove the top 2" leaving a 2" layer over the ground.

Good luck.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
