Bulbs/transplanting tulip bulbs

Question
I am in zone 5.  Brighton, Mi.  I would like to move some tulip bulbs.  I planted them last fall and have changed some of the landscaping and don't like where they are planted.  Should I dig them up and plant them right away or dig them up and save them until the Fall.  What should I do?

Answer
Dig them up now and replant immediately for best result.  Water well after planting (deep long soaking to thoroughly wet the soil 8-10" below surface). Mulch well.

Remember the "tulip law" when digging:

The tulip bulbs are never where you expected / remembered them to be and if you have some very nice tulips, these tend to be sliced by the spade first.

I.e. Dig a big wide hole when looking for them.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
