Question
I purchased some anemone blanda (windflowers).  They are such an odd shape I can not figure out which way is up.  Would you have a photo that I could look at?  The booklet I have suggests that if you can't figure out the top from the bottom to plant them on their sides.  I can't figure that out either. Thank you for your help.

Answer
The amemone blanda corms are flat (like a coin). Plant them so that they "stand up". E.g. if you take a coin. Normally it would lay flat with heads up or tails up. But if you are really good you can get a coin to balance on its edge. On a quarter, this is the rippled part. This is how you place the corms: on the edge.

Tip: soak the corms in warm (not cold, not hot) water for the night before planting.

Expertise

Can answer questions about spring and summer bulbs: selection, soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, designing with bulbs. I can also give references where to buy the bulbs and how to store them. Besides the typical bulbs (tulips, daffodils, amaryllis, lilies etc) I can also answer questions about other geophytes, such as tuberous begonia, dahlias, etc. When to start indoors, light requirement, etc. My experience is in cool season areas, but I can answer questions about warm season areas if given time to research matter.

Experience

Have worked with various bulbs (spring and summer bulbs). I am presently an allexpert advicer on the lawn message board also.
