Question
First I want to mention what a blessing this forum is! Our male EBD which we had neutered at 6 mos and is now 16 mos is at times exhibiting teenage type behavior, is this normal? Also, I've also thought he was a bit large for an EBD, he's 17" at the shoulders and weighs 70 lbs. Is this unusual? Thanks!

Hi Rick - I have an EBD here at My Doggie Hotel that is the size of your little boy.  They come in all sizes and shapes.  This boy is called " Higgens" and he is a little overweight.

Many times if the mom and dad are larger in size, then so are some of the litter mates.  ( genetics)


As for the Mounting Problem:

Mounting behaviors are both sexual and social behaviors in dogs. A dominant dog (or a dog attempting to show its dominance) will often mount the submissive dog.

What is he having " teenage behavior" with?

If your dog is humping  give  a “timeout” each and every time he/she humps another dog.
A timeout would involve removing your dog from the other dog, putting the leash on and marching him/her out of the park for a minute or two.
After multiple trials, your dog should make the connection and stop the behavior.

The next time your dog is humping another dog, demonstrate your leadership skills and understanding of the situation by apologizing to the other dog’s owner, then calmly leash your dog and remove him/her from the situation..

If your pal is humping a pillow or stuffed toy, just give them a "timeout" and take the toy away..
