Hi,
I have a 5 month old English bulldog who has had a chesty cough for about 2 months(maybe longer!). The vet has put him on 3 different lots of antibiotics over this time but its not going away. It sounds like he has a rattle in his chest and needs a good cough to clear it! He eats fine and seems happy...its just this bad chesty cough. Any clue what this might be?
Also can anyone give me info on the bulldog specialist on Staten Island?

Hi Katie:  If your dog has seen the vet a number of times for this problem, it could just be a virus.  Antibiotics will not help a virual infection.  There is no cure for a virus except time.  It will run it's course.  You can give Robitussin DM to your bull dog.


Don't Panic!  Like a common cold, canine cough (dog flu) will run it's course.

Robitussin-DM cough suppressant (child dosage) will reduce coughing.
They make child tablets that can melt in the mouth:

Or : the liquid is fine - just use a syringe... can be messy to administer...  Good Luck

I don't know anyone in that area:  You can call a few Bull Dog Breeders and ask who they like.  I am sure they will be glad to offer some advice to you.
