Bulldogs/Cherry Eye

QuestionQUESTION: Hi Maria,
I have a 10 month old female english bulldog. I feed her Royal Canin for bulldogs. She weighs about 52lbs and is very active. My question is that she keeps getting "cherry eye" but it pops back into place after a couple of hours or even minutes. She has never had it for more than a day. Since the gland keeps popping back into place on its own, should I just leave it alone or should I have the surgery to "tack" the gland? I notice that it pops out after she has rubbed her face on the carpet or outside playing. I just need advice on what to do.
Thank you, Christina
ANSWER: Hello Christina: I love English kids! Sooooo Cute!!!
A face that I can't resist... Even with a " cherry eye " ...!
As for options that are Non surgical? Not many.. You can give it some more time. As your kids gets a little older that area may become stronger and stay put. It is a weakness problem that makes this " cherry " happen in the eye membrane.
There are some options in Holistic healthy : here is a link to a discussion from a patient to a doctor .. Looked like they have some knowledge in this area.

Also, NuVET Plus will help to build up the immune system and strengthen your Bullie... It is worth a shot! Only .60 cents per day and helps many many areas of your pet's health.

The food your are feeding is fine. There are better ones out there but I would give your food a B...
If you want to change foods, let me know... I can refer you to some at the local pet store.
Oh, NuVET is not in the pet stores...Only thru Breeders, Kennels and Vets...
Here is the link to NuVET's web site
They ship all over using Priority Mail , which is low cost...and Quick, too.
Thanks for your question. In time, you may need to have the eye tacked back - very minor .... Like I said, " Time will Tell"
Best wishes and keep in touch!!

QUESTION: Hi Marie,
Thank you for your advice and I will watch for any changes. If we need to have surgery, then we will do so in the future. As for the pet food, I thought that Royal Canin was a good brand and also it is specifically for bulldogs. What else would you recommend?
Thank-you again, Christina
AnswerHello Again: Here is a review on one of the Royal Canine's Products... The Bulldog formula doesn't have a review as of yet. You can look at this site and learn a bunch about dog foods.

Dog Food Analysis on The Bulldog food - did not give it a great reivew at all... Look here:

This is what I recommend for your kid: Innova Evo - reduced fat.

What you can do is mix the Bull Dog Food and the Innova Evo reduced fat .... Give this mix for 1 month. After the month is over, then go Off of the bulldog formula and just stick with the Evo.
A wonderful grain free formula!
Also, the NuVET Plus supplement will help to Boost the Immune System and Healing of your kids weakened eye area.
You only need 1 NuVET Plus wafer treat per day ( cost is about .60 cents per day)
A dog on NuVET is healthy and will need less visits to the VET office in a lifetime.
