Question
QUESTION: WE HAVE A FEMALE ENGLISH BULLDOG PUPPY, ONE OF NINE FROM OUR LITTER. MOTHER DIED 12 HOURS LATER, SO THEY ARE ALL HAND RAISED FROM DAY ONE. THIS ONE WAS THE LARGEST, SO THEY WENT TO HER AND NURSED ON HER TAIL, ONCE WE REALIZED IT, WE REMOVED HER, BUT NOW SHE HAS BOWL PROBLEMS. WE THINK HER SPINCHTER MUSCLE WAS DAMAGED. SHE CANT POOP ON HER OWN, JUST WALKS AROUND AND OUT IT COMES, OR SHE SOMETIMES DOES IT WHILE LYING DOWN TOO. SHE IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY, VERY PLAYFUL, AND NORMAL OTHER THAN THIS. OUR VET HAS GIVEN ANTIBIOTIC SHOTS AND PILLS AND AN ANTI-INFLAMATORY TO HELP REDUCE THE SWELLING. HE ISNT SURE, BUT FEELS IT SHOULD HEAL OVER TIME. SHE DOES SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER, BUT STILL DOESNT POOP ON OWN. ANY IDEAS??

ANSWER: Tina, I am so sorry about the loss of Mother Bullie!  So sad.
Now, as for this baby.  Can you give her small amounts of canned pumpkin each day?  This would be the pure canned pumpkin, about 1 teaspoon a few times per day.
I would do this every day and see if it will help her.  This is excellent fiber and good quality calories, too.

Also, if you don't mind, try to stimulate her anal area:

****You as the surrogate mom need to artificially stimulate the puppy to poop, and use her muscle.   You can do this easily by using a cotton swab dipped in baby oil. Gently swab the anus area 3 x per day, if possible. ****  This will help to develop this muscle and offer much stimulation.

Also, you may want to start the pups on some NuVET Plus Supplement/ This is an immune system booster / Something the pups need without the mom... It is a wafer or powder you mix into the food.
NuVET Plus - Make sure you get the powder and not the wafer... Puppies.

QUESTION: I just wanted to say thank you first of all. I also didnt say that they are 11 weeks old today. So should i still try the pumpkin in her food. Its like she poops good, solid, but doesnt know or worse, cant use her muscle to poop normally. she can just be standing there, and then poop will come out. i know at least we are lucky that she poops, cause the other alternative would be deadly. i just wanted to make sure that you understood they are older pups now. all of them have been doing wonderfully, and our vet said we have done a beautiful job raising them. i only wish myrtle was here to enjoy her beautiful babies. also, should i still give the supplement to them now too?

Answer
Hi-  Yes, you can give her a small amount of pumpkin... it won't hurt her at all.  If it makes the poop too loose, then discontinue it.
As for the NuVET Plus - powder - Yes, put this in the food 1 x per day for all the pups. **** Most breeders start the pups on it right away.... once they are eating moist pup food.
The mother dog takes NuVET thur her pregnancy and during lactation.  The pups get it thru her milk.

Again, so sorry about your girl.  Did she have a blood clot?

When you do get ready to sell the pups, I would be glad to send you a NuVET brochure for every new puppy parent.

Call Joan tomorrow at 1-800-474-7044 ext 265/ Tell her Marie sent you from All Experts and The Doggie Hotel
Give her this breeder's order code 81098
It will cost you about .25 cents per dog, per day, for the NuVET Plus - ( they only need 1/2 dosage per day because they are pups.)

Thanks and Let me know how things go...
Also, let me know if you want brochures for the customers who purchase the pups
