Bulldogs/How much to feed OEB 1 year old
Expert: Christine Puetz - 11/27/2009
Question
Hi, We adopted an OEB from the Humane Society, don't have a clue why these people gave him up, he's adorable! However, they brought him in way under fed with ribs showing. The shelter put him on Science diet puppy formula and he quickly showed weight gain. He was only the the shelter for 10 days before we adopted him. We've been feeding him 2 cups 3 times a day of the Science Diet for puppies. My husband thinks that too much so that's why we're asking an expert breeder. We plan on gradually moving him over the Canidae which has been recommended from several sources. My husband and I need to know how much we actually should feed him and how often. He's 1 year old and is about 50 - 55 lbs (haven't taken him to vet yet). We have fallen in love with this pup and want to do what's best for his health. We plan to never feed him table scraps and know the things he absolutely should not eat like chocolate and onions. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Have a great Thanksgiving weekend.

AnswerEmelia,
Sounds like you are doing things right and your new pup is very fortunate.
I like to start with the recommendation that is on the dog food bag. It will be by weight. From that see if you bully seems still to be hungry. If he seems like he is still hungry, you can give him some more.
At one years old, you should be able to switch to two feedings a day. You want to feed him enough so he doesn't eat too fast at his next feeding.
Hope that helps,
