Question
My bulldog is 8 months old.  She seems to have started her period.  Her area down there is very swollen and she is licking herself excessively.  Wanting to know if this all sounds normal.

Hello Stefanie, yes, it is all normal.  She can bleed for up to 21 days, once the bleeding starts.  With her first heat, I sure hope it will be a light flow.
Also, if you don't want to breed her you may want to have her spayed before the next heat or season starts.  She will go into heat every 6 months or so.
