QUESTION: Our male 5 month old puppy weighs 49 lbs. Should we be concerned as he seems extra large? We feed him 1 cup of food 3 x's a day. We feed him large breed puppy IAMS food.
He is very active with no physical problems.

Hello Kerry ,  Well, the Iams has too much corn and rice in it.
I would slowly switch him over to a better food.
How about Innova , Wellness, or Merrick puppy foods?
You can do a 50:50 mix of the Old food and the New food x 3 weeks.
Then, go 100% to the new puppy food with less junk corn fillers.
Iams uses some low cost corn in the food.  ( makes dogs fat)


You will use less of the Better Brand dog foods because they are more condensed with better ingredients.

Also, if you boy seems hungry offer him 1/2 can of green beans 2 x per day - rinse out the excess salt.
Give him a dash of pure garlic powder ontop of the green beans...
oh, soooooo goooooood for him!!!!!

QUESTION: Hi
We tried the Wellness but it made him gassy. We will try it again to see using the 1/2 and 1/2 mix. And we will also try the green beans- he will probably love it since he likes to eat leaves.

Answer
Puppy food has x-tra protein but the Core has some great protein, too.
YOU can change over in a few months...For now, do the mix of your old food and the new food....
PLUS - your breed has a tendency to get overweight.
Many vets refer pet parents to Adult food at 8-9 months of age.
