We took our English Bulldog to the vet for a rabies vaccination and a distemper booster and 5 days after the shot he had developed a lump on his back right hind quarter and we are not even sure if the place that the site was even where the shot was administered however, we are just a little concerned we made an appointment for him this coming Monday but we are wondering is it normal to have swelling 5 days after the shot and if it isn't can a bruise cause swelling, we don't know that anything has happened to him, as we are with him always but you just never know, don't want it to be cancer. he is 1 year and 6 months old and not neutered, just for classification purposes.

Hi Deanna,  Yes, this can happen after a immunizaton. Next time you have any vaccines, make sure you give 25mg of Benadryl prior to the visit... ( Make sure your Vet is ok with this>???)
Most Vets do recommend Benadryl to lessen the swelling.  Please also make sure your Vet knows this has happened.   Ask them to give it in the neck/shoulder area next time.
