Bulldogs/Nursing Mother Limping....

Question
First things first, I am going to call the vet tomorrow, but
I doubt he will be able to get my dog in until most likely
Tuesday.

Anyway, I have a 2 1/2 year Olde English Bulldogge whom
whelped her first litter on Monday (11/15). She has had X-
rays int he past, been cleared of hip issues, and is a very
healthy dog.

However, I noticed just a few hours ago when I took her out
for her nightly walk, that she was limping on her back right
leg. First thing I did was inspect the paw, knee, and hip. I
found a small area on her hip that was warm and swollen, and
was a tad tender.

Now, she has been a very attentive mother, rarely leaving
her whelping box unless I make her (which I do several times
a day for walks, and to try and clear her mind). I sat next
to her box for some time tonight, and noticed the hip that
is swollen and sore, is the same one she keeps
laying/sitting on.

I have taken her temperature, and it is normal (102.1 which
is quite typical for her). She is on Blue Buffalo Puppy food
(normal, not large breed), along with Merrick Puppy canned.
She is eating great, maintaining a beautiful weight, and
producing plenty of milk. Pups are growing great and looking
beautiful.

My question/concern is two fold. One, is this something that
has been encountered before/common? Secondly, is there
anything I can safely give her to alleviate the
pain/inflammation until the vet can see her? I am thinking
about doing some hot/cold compress in the morning if the hip
is still sore if the vet cannot see her.

Otherwise she is doing great. I put more padding in her
whelping box, just to try and make it a bit more
comfortable.

Answer
Well, Best wishes to you and Momma!  Sounds like it may just be a pressure area that is acting up.  Yes, please place more padding in her whelping box.

Please see your vet if the swelling continues.
Most Vets will allow 1 baby aspirin (81 mg) per day if needed.
YOU can ask your Vet if that would be ok to reduced the inflammation.

Momma should be on a good supplement -  I have many nursing Moms on NuVET supplement Wafers ---- It helps with the immune system and milk production, too.  ( HOLISTIC and much better than the JUNKY Pet Tabs the VET and Pet Stores sell)

NuVET is a great help for any pet of any age.
With the pups, they can start on the NuVET Powder at about 6 weeks of age.  ( BEFORE that, they get the NuVET from Mom's milk)

HOPE she is feeling better soon!
