Bulldogs - Purchasing an Olde English

Expert: Marjorie Kelley - 4/25/2007

Question
Researching on the internet can be overwhelming. I can't seem to find particular olde english articles, just EBD. I am bringing one home mid June and want to make sure I can give it a good home. The puppy will come to me at 8 wks w/ health cert and first round of shots and de-worming. When should the 2nd be administered and should there be a 3rd, and thereafter etc.? My roommate has a Boston Terrier male, not neutered, will they be okay together? He's pretty mello and doesnt do much but sleep. I would be purchasing a male and having him neutered. Are there any major health issues for OEBD? I couldnt find any. And last but not least, I work 9-5 M-F but would have someone home 2-3 days out of the week and also am hiring a dog walker 2 days a week, is this okay?

Answer
There's not much information available on the OEB. I've raised them for several years in addition to the AKC Bulldogs. I recommend them for active families with children as I firmly believe they are much better suited for this then the AKC dogs. There's as much info on my web site at www.heritagebulldogges.com as you'll find anywhere.

If your puppy is neutered, chances are the two boys will get along fine. It's never guaranteed however.  I strongly recommend obedience classes.  9-5 is a long stretch for a puppy.  See if you can find a puppy kindergarten for a couple of days a week. It would be great for his socialization.
