Burlington, Vermont/Place I heard about
Expert: David Beckett - 12/29/2008
QuestionI'll be in Burlington for a few months next year and I play hockey. I want to find some people that might play some pickup games since I won't really be able to join a league and I was told there is a bar called Tony's that a lot of players frequent after games, but I can't find anything about it anywhere in the yellow pages. Have you heard of it, and if so can you get me a phone number or at least an address?
AnswerHi Joe -
Unfortunately Hockey isn't something I know a lot about. So I did a few www searches for you - but wasn't able to find Tony's.
There are probably 3 dozen sports bars in the county though, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a pickup game of Hockey.
I'd start by stopping in at "The Scuffer", a well known place near the bottom of Church Street, in the heart of downtown Burlington. It's recently changed hands, but is (and I'm guessing always will be) known as a place to go watch sports and hang out with local sports heroes. The same could be said for (just for starters) "esox", "3 needs" and "Church Street Tavern" all of which are within a block or so of eachother.
Before long, you'll meet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Brennan and by that time you'll know where all the pickup games happen.
Another strategy would be to go to Cairns Arena in South Burlington, or to Leddy Arena in Burlington, and ask around.
Finally, the local weekly Seven Days is a terrific resource for news, arts and entertainment info. Thier sister site
http://www.7nvt.com/7n/home.htm Seven Nights, has a description, and comments posted by users, for almost every bar and restaurant in the area. You might have a look at the entries for the places I mentioned above...
Please let me know if I can help further!
