Burlington, Vermont/thinking of relocating to Burlington
Expert: David Beckett - 12/14/2008
QuestionMy husband and I are thinking of relocating to Burlington from San Francisco with our 15 month old daughter. I am wondering what the job market is like currently, what the average cost of a Burlington downtown-ish 2bdrm apartment goes for, and what the decent pre-schools are that are accepting 2.5 year-olds. We love what we have heard about Burlington (political climate, scenery, proximity to Montreal, etc.) Thank you so much.
AnswerHello Leah,
An apartment should be relatively easy to find right now, but the job market is somewhat tighter. The availability of jobs depends a great deal, of course, on what sort of job you're looking/qualified for.
Decent 2 bedroom apartments should be 750-1200 a month. These will vary in kind and quality. If you're not looking at the same time the college students are looking, you should be able to find something nice. Apartment complexes are rare here, so you'll likely be looking at houses which have been converted into rentals, or at condos or half of what was a single family home.
Childcare Resource and Referral service
http://www.childcareresource.org/ is the best resource for Pre-School info. They can help you sort through the great variety of pre-schools available - depending on where you live. The closer you are to Burlington, the better choice you'll have, I believe.
Here are some sites which should help you further with these questions. You'll find lots of clasified ads and area information in them. Please feel free to let me know what other questions you have. I'm very happy to help!
